HELP! My child had more than the recommended dose- should I be worried?
Our children's supplements are carefully formulated to be incredibly gentle and safe for long term, daily use. Our single supplements, magnesium and vitamin C, are both water soluble nutrients which means the body will not store these, so there is no risk of toxicity and the body will simply excrete any excess. Our children's liposomal multivitamin (Mini Multivitamin) contains some fat soluble vitamins such as A, E, D and K. These are well below the upper tolerable limit and even at large consumption would not pose harm to a child. None of the nutrients contained in an ENTIRE bottle of multivitamin are at the levels deemed “possibly toxic” to a healthy child from 12 months of age.
In the event of a large amount consumed, you may wish to encourage fluid intake to help the body excrete excess. Your child may urinate more frequently as this is the way the body removes excess water soluble nutrients. Your child may have an upset stomach and possible diarrhoea.
Contact your trusted health care professional for medical or individualised advice.
Every circumstance is different and may be affected by numerous other factors and health conditions, and so if your child appears unwell, seek medical care.
Are Mighty Kids products regulated and certified as safe?
Yes. Our products are manufactured in accordance with the following safety standards:
ISO 22000 certification, implying the ability to provide liposomal formulations and services that are safe and in accordance with their intended use.
You can read more about ISO standards here
GMP certification, assuring adherence to the European code of practices and general principles of food hygiene throughout the complete cycle of production and quality control of liposomal supplements.
You can read more about GMP certification here
US FDA registration, meaning our liquid liposomal products are able to be exported and consumed in the USA.
You can read more about FDA standards here
We annually invest in third party testing and we also voluntarily opt in to paid membership of the HFMA for an additional layer of regulation that is above and beyond what is legally required in the supplement industry.
Can Mighty Kids Magnesium be taken alongside other supplements?
We have a trio of products that were formulated for daily use to work together for optimal support:
Liposomal Magnesium + Liposomal Multivitamin + Liposomal Vitamin C.
You can read more about these 3 here.
We also have an Omega 3 which is highly recommended if your child is not eating several servings of oily fish per week.
Most standard combo supplements or multivitamins do not contain magnesium, so it is generally not an issue to add in the Mighty Kids Magnesium to a current multivitamin your child is already taking, but since we cannot provide advice on anything other than our own products, please do your own research and/or speak with your health care team about combining supplements.
Magnesium deficiency appears to be much more common than magnesium excess. Cases where magnesium has caused severe adverse effects have typically involved doses of around 5,000 mg/day of magnesium*, which is 100 times greater than the dose we recommend for ages 5 and above.

What time should I give the Magnesium?
With the liposomal delivery system, the mineral is released slowly into the bloodstream and levels will just build up over time with consistent use, so it’s not entirely necessary to have a set time (it does not behave like melatonin or a sleeping pill). However, some parents have reported great results giving it just before bedtime if relaxation or better sleep is the main goal of supplementing. If the main concern is addressing behaviour, concentration, or anxiety, then giving it in the morning can be useful. Many parents also split the dose, giving half in the morning and half in the evening to address several concerns.
However, every child is individual and you will know best as a parent when they respond best, and what time works with your schedule and lifestyle!
How long does Magnesium take to work?
Many factors are involved, including what concern you’re trying to address, how old your child is, diet, recent illness, current developmental stage, additional support needs, activity levels, environment and more!
Most health professionals recommend at least 4-6 weeks of regular intake of Magnesium before consistent results are seen. If your mineral stores are significantly depleted, it is not uncommon for improvement to take up to 6 months of regular supplementation.
Please see this blog post for more information.
Will my child become dependant on the Liposomal Magnesium?
This is not a concern! Magnesium is just a mineral required by the body for normal function (responsible for over 300 reactions in the body!), and it is a nutrient that cannot be made by the body so it is necessary to obtain through diet or supplementation. In the same way you need consistent intake of nutrients like calcium and vitamin C, and do not develop a dependency, regular Magnesium intake is required to provide the body with what it needs. It does not behave in the body like a sleeping pill or even melatonin. It does not mimic hormones, cause drowsiness, or inhibit sensory activity by forcing sleep.
If you notice that behaviour or sleep issues arise after some time when you discontinue Magnesium supplementation, this does not suggest a dependancy, but rather is an indicator that Magnesium levels in the body have dropped again since it is a mineral that cannot be made by the body.
Crystals/bits in the Magnesium
Mighty Kids Magnesium uses a liposomal encapsulation system, which is a very powerful method of delivering bioavailable Magnesium to the body. A result of this innovative technique is the formation of harmless crystals, due to the alkaline properties of Magnesium reacting to the carriers.
The safety and efficiency of the product remain unchanged. Previous solutions involved loading the formula with chemical additives, which we could not allow. However, our R&D team has worked tirelessly on this issue, and has recently made a significant breakthrough in ensuring that crystallisation does not occur without compromising the suitability of ingredients. We are expecting a new and improved version of our kids liposomal magnesium to be available late 2025.
As this solution is not available immediately, we feel it is best to educate our wonderful customers on the reasons that the effect occurs, and we hope you share our view that it is better to have a more natural product with variation then a chemically loaded one with fewer inconsistencies. In the same way that natural honey or pressed apple juice will incur crystallisation or sediment and separation over time, these bits do not alter the safety or effectiveness of the product and are in fact, proof of the variability in texture and colour that can happen with natural products, due to seasonal changes (this can also cause changes in colour from batch to batch).
Our high strength ‘Mighty Magnesium’ was reformulated in early summer 2025, and is now unflavoured with a much more tart than sweet taste. This product sees a significant improvement with the crystallisation issue, although some crystallisation will always be normal in a liposomal magnesium product, without the use of chemical additives to entirely prevent this.
Can Magnesium have a laxative effect?
There can be a sensitivity or reaction to any product, this just depends on the person. However, we specifically chose Magnesium Bisglycinate as it is the form that is most known for NOT having the side effects that can come with other forms of Magnesium such as Citrate- these include cramping and loose stools.
However, Magnesium in any form does have a mild osmotic laxative effect and this just means that it draws water into the intestines which can help to soften stools and make them easier to pass. However, it does not FORCE a bowel movement like a stimulant laxative. Our supplement also contains sunflower lecithin which supports digestion and gut health, often resulting in improved constipation or painful bowel movements.
Lastly, Magnesium is also known to have a mild detoxifying effect and so if there has been stored toxins, this can help things move along (it is the same with Vitamin C) and this can cause a temporary increase in bowel movements or looser stools. This is usually resolved in a short time period.
If you suspect this may be a possible sensitivity for your particular child, it can be helpful to start small (even as low as 1ml/day of the supplement) and build up over a few days to full dose, and to ensure you give the supplement with food rather than on an empty stomach.
Is Magnesium suitable for people with kidney issues?
While we do not provide any medical advice, we do know that in severe cases, and with certain conditions, this can be an issue since magnesium excess is excreted through the kidneys. Our dosage is far below the upper daily intake levels, however there may be additional sources of magnesium present already, and your health care team or doctor should be consulted before adding in our liposomal magnesium. All ingredients and dosages are on the product page for reference.
Will Magnesium make a child drowsy or cause them to sleep in?
Magnesium does not force sleep or cause drowsiness. It does not behave in the body like a sleeping pill or melatonin supplements. It is not a medication, it is one of the most important minerals that our bodies require regular intake of, either through food or supplementation. Magnesium supports the body’s natural detox pathways, hormone production (including normal levels of melatonin), receptors and blood sugar levels, and plays important roles in the central nervous system, which can all contribute to healthier sleep patterns and relaxation.
We also know that a good routine that includes nourishment through food, consistent sleep/wake times, appropriate napping, sunlight exposure, minimal screen time/blue lights, and age-appropriate exercise cannot be replaced with a supplement.
What form of Magnesium is this supplement?
We chose magnesium bisglycinate for several reasons.
It is the form most recommended by health professionals for sleep, relaxation, and reducing anxiety. It is the form that is most known for having the least amount of side effects, which in other forms of magnesium may include cramping and excessively loose stools. And it is a highly bioavailable form which makes it easy for the body to use, further enhanced by the increased absorption rate of our liposomal delivery system, which means the magnesium bisglycinate is encapsulated into bio-identical lipids so your body recognises and uses the active ingredient without the need for conversion or the risk of being destroyed by the digestive system.
My child is under 2- can they take these?
Mighty Kids Vitamin C, Vitamin D3/K2, Kids Magnesium, and Multivitamin are suitable from 12 months.
The Mighty Magnesium is labelled for 12 years and up. The Mighty Multivitamin is suitable for teens and adults. These products CAN be used for younger children, at a reduced dose. Speak to our team, or see this blog for more information. The Mighty Magnesium is exactly double the strength of the kids magnesium, so the dosage would be half the amount of the kids. (Example: if your child takes 5ml of the kids magnesium, this is the same as 2.5ml of the Mighty Magnesium).
When we originally released each new product, our labels were designed with dosage from 2 years+.
Mighty Kids was the first UK company to create liposomal supplements for kids and so as industry leaders, we wanted to exercise caution and start with a very conservative age limit. However, with over a year of education provided to our customers, and guidance from our team of scientists and nutritionists, we are now in the process of updating our labels.
The dosage on all our kids products in the kids line is safe from 12 months- with parental discretion. It is important to check all other sources of fortified intake or supplements for total amounts when combined with our products. For your protection and ours, we cannot offer advice on any specific formulas, vitamin drops, or other products other than our own, but we would recommend looking at the charts provided by the NIH for a guideline. The daily intake levels set out these charts are actually the same for ages 1-3, so anyone over 12 months can take the 2 year old dosage on the bottle.
We do not advise giving supplements to children under 12 months, except in the event of a very tiny amount of Vitamin C as outlined in this blog post: https://mightykidssupplements.co.uk/did-you-know-babies-have-higher-vitamin-c-requirements-than-toddlers/
Will this help my child who has ADHD/Autism or is awaiting a diagnosis?
Studies show that individuals with ADHD, ASD, Autism, Tourettes and other diagnoses on the spectrum often have lower magnesium levels in the body. People who are experiencing the negative symptoms of these conditions often benefit hugely from supplementing liposomal Magnesium, as well as other vitamins and minerals that are in our multivitamin, such as B vitamins, vitamin D, and zinc. Omega 3 is often very limited in the diet in these cases, and can have a profound impact when added in supplement form. Please refer to the following resources for more information:

My child is sensitive to taste and smells- what are these supplements like?
Our liposomal products all contain natural flavours extracted directly from fruits.
Liposomal Magnesium: Mango flavour or Apple flavour
Liposomal Multivitamin: Dragonfruit flavour
Liposomal Vitamin C: Orange & Vanilla flavour or Apple flavour
Liposomal Vitamin D3/K2: Unflavoured but still sweetened
Omega 3: a very mild hint of lemon from organic lemon oil
We have thousands of customers who use the Mighty Kids supplements every day with their children, who are happy to take them neat from the cap, a spoon, or syringe.
We also have customers who describe their children as quite sensitive or particular with certain things and do find the taste or sometimes even the smell to be what is generally described as "intense", and these parents find it necessary to dilute or disguise the supplements in various ways.
It is impossible to know how each child will respond to a certain taste, or any new food/drink/supplement. The supplements are quite sweet, and are a syrupy texture. We are committed to health and quality, and do not use any artificial dyes or colours, and due to the natural ingredients and antioxidants, the supplements are a dark caramel colour, which some kids can find off-putting initially.
We have loads of ideas, tips, and recipes for incorporating the supplements on this blog post.
How can the taste be improved-can I mix with food or drinks?
You can dilute the supplements in almost any food or drink, as long as the supplements are not HEATED, FROZEN, or BLENDED, which will denature the liposomes and decrease the effectiveness. Taking the supplements with a spoonful of lemon or lime juice really helps for the kids who struggle with the sweet taste. If you are really struggling, it may be helpful to split the dosage into 2 or more servings throughout the day to make it easier to disguise, or even to start with 1ml and work up as your child adjusts. There is no loss of effectiveness if the supplement is diluted or split into smaller doses through the day.
This blog post has tons of ideas and recipes for you.
* Please note that the supplements must not be heated, frozen, or blended as this will denature the liposomes and reduce efficiency.
Can I microwave this in my child's milk? Or blend in a smoothie?
Our supplements cannot be frozen, heated or blended, as this can denature the liposomes and reduce the powerful absorption. However, lightly warmed milk/drinks are perfectly fine, although the supplements need to be added AFTER heating/microwaving. They also cannot be agitated at high speed, so need to be added to shakes and smoothies after blending.
Why are these more expensive compared to most supplements?
Our goal was to bring something to parents that was not currently available in the UK when Mighty Kids launched. Our commitment was to the BEST- the highest quality, the most innovative delivery system, and the safest ingredients, with no fillers, additives or artificial colours or flavours. All of this costs more to produce, but the results are well worth the higher price point. Read over 800 FIVE STAR reviews on our Trust Pilot page: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/mightykidssupplements.co.uk?stars=5 .
Most high street, standard supplements contain fillers, bulking agents and additives, and cheaply produced forms of vitamins and minerals that are difficult for the body to absorb, can cause digestive upset, and require the body to convert them into useable forms.
Mighty Kids uses an innovative transport system called liposomal encapsulation, which has been used in chemotherapy and other medical settings, but is still fairly new to the food supplement industry. More about this amazing technology can be found here. This results in absorption rates of up to 12x HIGHER than a standard supplement. Mighty Kids was the first company in the UK to produce liposomal supplements specifically for children.
We use the active forms of vitamins and minerals, and have worked carefully with specialists to combine nutrients synergistically so they respond in your body as close as possible to the way nature intended, AND ensure that other nutrients are absorbed and transported in the body appropriately. An example of this is including K2 in our vitamin D3 supplement, to ensure that proper calcium regulation happens. These are also suitable for people with the MTHFR gene, where proper methylation can be a concern with certain forms of vitamins and minerals.
We are proud to source and use natural preservatives like rosemary extract and sea buckthorn extract, which both have their own additional health benefits, albeit in very small amounts in the supplements.
We do not use any artificial colours or flavours, only natural flavourings from fruit extracts.
What does NRV mean and why do your supplements have greater or sometimes less amounts than this?
We have a blog post all about this! Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) is the daily intake for a nutrient that has been found adequate to prevent deficiency. In other words, it's the minimum amount of a nutrient that should be taken each day to avoid deficiencies that can contribute to health issues or disease. The authorities who decide on NRVs also issue a quantity called the Upper Limit (UL), which is the maximum amount of a nutrient that is considered safe. The quantity of each nutrient contained in certain products sits between the NRV and UL: in other words it is greater than the minimum required amount, but less than the maximum safe amount.
The difference between the NRV and UL varies. Whereas it is safe to take vitamin C in doses far exceeding the NRV, taking larger amounts of a mineral such as iron is usually not advisable.
The quantities provided in these charts are based on the experimental evidence available to the panels who derive them, and are being continually reevaluated in the light of more recent studies.
An in depth explanation by an independent scientist of how nutrient reference values were developed can be found here: https://nutritionalassessment.org/nrv/
Mighty Kids supplements were formulated with a team of professionals who not only understand the NRV guidelines, but who are also knowledgeable on liposomal supplements in particular, which are very different to a standard supplement. The goal with supplementation is not to reach exactly 100% of each nutrient as outlined in the NRV charts. Some nutrients provide optimal support for children through liposomal delivery at a much lower percentage of the NRV. Some nutrients require a much higher percentage for optimal benefits to be seen- using again for example, Vitamin C.
We recommend using the NRV and the charts produced by the NIH as great reference points and as a general guide to what may be appropriate for your child's overall nutrient intake. See our post on high dose Vitamin C for further information.
Why is there no iron or calcium in the multivitamin?
We work with specialists for optimal formulations of all our supplements, including the ingredients and amounts of each. An important factor to note is our liposomal delivery system, which means that all nutrients are encapsulated in phospholipids, which provides up to 14x the absorption rate. At this high absorption, certain nutrients could be a concern for sensitive individuals, so we left those out. This is the reason we do not include iron or calcium and some other nutrients, as they can be known to cause unwanted side effects, or have concerns with improper dosage, of which the needs are quite individual, and children can be more sensitive to this.
There are actually 90 known required nutrients for the human body, but of course no serving size could accommodate all of these. All these nutrients are important, of course, but our multivitamin is designed for long term, daily use, and suitable for nearly all individuals.
For the 2 nutrients we are most commonly asked about, iron and calcium, note that we include vitamin A, vitamin C, and zinc which act in the proper absorption and distribution of iron in the body, and Vitamin D3/K2, which helps the body do the same with calcium.
Does the Multivitamin contain everything a child needs?
We have a trio of products that were designed to work together in daily combination for optimal health:
Liposomal Magnesium + Liposomal Multivitamin + Liposomal Vitamin C. We also have an Omega 3 product which is essential for normal development, and unless your child eats several servings of oily fish each week, is probably lacking in the diet. More about that here.
Our liposomal Multivitamin was specially formulated with experts to children’s normal dietary needs, and considers the amounts recommended to prevent deficiencies while also allowing for room to further supplement through diet or other supplements such as additional vitamin C, and adding in magnesium.
Another factor considered is the bioavailability of the liposomal aspect, which is proven to be many times more absorbent than other standard supplements.
So even though another supplement may have HIGHER ratios of a particular nutrient, the body may actually absorb and use even LESS than it would using our our liposomal multivitamin which contains a smaller amount.
We exercised caution around iron and calcium particularly, as they can be known to cause unwanted side effects, or have concerns with improper dosage, of which the needs are quite individual, and children can be more sensitive to this.
Note that we include vitamin A, vitamin C, and zinc which act in the proper absorption and distribution of iron in the body, and Vitamin D3/K2, which helps the body do the same with calcium.
Everything in the Mighty Kids Liposomal Multivitamin is very gentle and safe, yet highly effective.
Can my child take additional vitamin D alongside the multivitamin?
The Mighty Kids multivitamin contains sufficient daily dose of vitamin D for most children-unless there is a known deficiency, prescribed higher dose, or certain inflammatory conditions such as asthma, eczema, or others.
Parents may choose to supplement with extra, depending on the time of year, or if a child is unwell, stays indoors for extended periods of time, or has darker skin.
Please speak with your health care team for advice on your specific situation, as we cannot advise on individual dosages.
Can my child take all supplements every day and can they have them at the same time?
Our vitamins were designed to be taken together and work brilliantly as a ‘team’ to support so many functions of the body. They are fine to be taken together, at the same time, with or without food. Our daily trio for kids (Magnesium + Multivitamin + Vitamin C) is the best and easiest way to ensure comprehensive protection against deficiencies, and provide optimal nutritional support. If your child does not eat several servings of oily fish per week, we highly recommend adding in the Omega 3, which is crucial for normal development.
Further info: The multivitamin can be most helpful in the morning, as it contains several nutrients that are very energising to the cells (this does not mean it will make a child hyper), and many find the magnesium to be supportive nearer to bedtime. However, this varies, and some children actually do better with taking magnesium in the morning.
For information on extra vitamin D, please see our "Can my child take additional vitamin D alongside the multivitamin?" FAQ.
Are all Mighty Kids products vegan and allergen free?
Yes! All the supplements in our range are vegan and completely free of allergens- this includes dairy, soy, gluten, wheat, nuts, eggs, and more!
We do use natural fruit flavours so if your child is allergic to Apple, Mango, Orange or Dragonfruit, these supplements will NOT be suitable.
Please note all supplements contain phospholipids derived from de-oiled sunflower lecithin. (This is not the same as sunflower oil or seed oils.)
What is the ingredient maltodextrin?
When we originally designed our labels, we felt it was important as part of our commitment to transparency to disclose all ingredients, including those classed as "incidental ingredients", which we are not legally required to list, but may be used somewhere in the process, with little to none remaining in the final product. Maltodextrin is one of those, but unfortunately listing this on the labels did cause strong responses in some concerned customers, who were not aware of the actual amounts and if they pose any risk.
From our research, and discussions with our manufacturer and scientists who are well versed on all current EFSA guidelines, we do not feel the amount is anywhere near a level that should cause any concern.
For context, it is only present in minuscule amounts in the K2, which is in our Vitamin D3 product and in the Multivitamin.
In the Vitamin D3/K2 supplement the MAXIMUM remaining amount in the final product would be:
0.98mg in the 1.4ml serving which is for up to 12 year olds, or
1.96mg in the 12+ serving of 2.8ml.
In the Multivitamin there is even less:
0.50mg in a 2.5ml serving, or
1mg in a 5ml serving.
Are these supplements safe while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Yes! See this post for more information on this. Our Mighty Multivitamin and Mighty Magnesium are an incredible support. The vitamin C, and D3/K2 can also be used to further support individual needs. Our gentle, but highly efficient liposomal supplements are supportive and beneficial during pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding. Pregnancy can significantly deplete a woman's mineral stores and the demands of breastfeeding means the body will continue to burn through water soluble nutrients like magnesium and vitamin C at a rapid rate.
Our line of liposomal supplements are safe, and gentle, and under proper dosage there is no concern of the baby receiving too much through the milk.
If you are already on a prenatal supplement, it is important to check that it does not contain high amounts of any of these vitamins or minerals. A good place to understand the Upper Tolerable Limits of vitamins and minerals can be found here: https://www.efsa.europa.eu/sites/default/files/assets/ndatolerableuil.pdf
Can I take these supplements while still breastfeeding my child who is also taking them?
It’s perfectly safe and widely encouraged to supplement whilst breastfeeding, as supplementing contributes to the nutrient density of breastmilk which is passed to infants but does not overlap the nutrient requirements of infants from their own diet. The government recommend all breastfed infants from age 6 months take a supplement containing vitamins A, C & D alongside breastmilk as a minimum to support a balanced diet. Magnesium can safely be taken by both a child aged 12months+ and by the breastfeeding mother at the same time.
As with introducing any new supplement or food to infants, please monitor for any reactions.
